NESTINARSTVO

 NESTINARSTVO

The most curious thing for me is NESTINARSTVO, a ritual dance originally practiced in various Bulgarian villages in the southeastern extremity of Bulgaria. The dance consists in walking barefoot on the glowing embers that is performed by the "nestinari". This is generally performed on the town square, on the day of Saints Constantine and Elena or on the day of the town's patron saint. This dance has also become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the day of the ceremony the villagers go to the "stolnina", led by the "nestinar" chief and the priest.
